August 29-September 1 1997, Banff Alberta, Yoho National Park, British Columbia.
On August 29, 1997, a ground breaking interdisciplinary conference opened at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff, Alberta, Canada. For the next four days, paleontologists, computer scientists and digital artists met and discussed key themes in the origins of life, nature's choices in evolution, and the prospects for digital biota. As part of the conference a special trek to the nearby Burgess Shale Cambrian fossil quarries was organized by the Burgess Shale Foundation and the organizers of the Digital Burgess conference.
