NASA's Vision for Space Exploration
LSAM - Lunar Surface Access Module
 Real-time 3D Dynamic Simulations

This is a real-time 3D simulation of NASA's conceptual Lunar Surface Access Module (LSAM) which is a component of the Vision for Space Exploration announced in September 2005. The LSAM is a significantly updated successor to the original Apollo Lunar Module. The LSAM is designed to carry up to four astronauts to the lunar surface for stays of a week or longer. Our simulation of LSAM shows the virtual vehicle making approaches and landings on a variety of Lunar terrains. The physics of the descent engine thrust vector, production of dust, and the dynamics of the suspension are all modeled in this set of simulations. The simulations can be installed and run on any Windows PC with installed 3D graphics card. The user can watch the simulation and change their point of view Alternatively, movies and still images of each landing sequence are available below. This simulation is created by DM3D Studios for DigitalSpace using the DigitalSpaces open source platform.
