A White Paper
1. Introductions
This White Paper introduces Adobe Atmosphere from the personal perspective of Bruce Damer who is contributing this by invitation of Adobe Systems Incorporated. This represents Bruce's opinion and not necessarily that of Adobe Systems Incorporated. Bruce is a longtime community leader in the virtual worlds movement having produced the annual "Avatars" conferences since 1996 and written the first book on the medium "Avatars!" (PeachPit Press, 1998). More about the organizations that Bruce helped found can be seen at www.ccon.org (the Contact Consortium), www.digitalspace.com (Digital Space Commons) and www.damer.com (personal homepage).

Introducing Atmosphere: A Giant Leap Forward into a New Cyberspace
Atmosphere is very exciting to me, and to all of us who are working hard to build our lives and enterprises around this thing called Cyberspace. Why? Well, Atmosphere represents a leap beyond the 2D document Web into rich three dimensional spaces. But most importantly Atmosphere comes with the people built in, using a "multi-user server" and "avatars" (your visual representation in Cyberspace) so that you can see and communicate with your friends, your customers, your students, and your coworkers in real time inside any Atmosphere space. More about this and other technical and creative wonders of Atmosphere later. But what really takes the cake here is who is bringing you Atmosphere: Adobe Systems Inc. > Next |
